Welcome to A Piece of Lady V and to my first blog post! My name is Jordan Rodgers and I am from Memphis, Tennessee. (901 born and raised, baby!) I would first like to kick this off by sharing a little about myself and the “why” behind creating this blog. I am 22 years old. I’ll be celebrating the big 2-3 in November. Yes, I am most definitely a Scorpio and proud of it! If you made a face as soon as you read “Scorpio” and are not a Scorpio, I just want to say that I am so sorry to hear that. Lol I will most definitely touch on the conversation about astrology signs and how they play a big role in today’s society in a future blog.

I don’t think they heard me in the back so let me repeat… I was born in THEE Memphis, Tennessee. I was not born in Arkansas, Olive Branch, Bartlett, or Germantown. If you are from Memphis, then you know how our fellow neighbors take that very seriously. Lol I have four siblings. In the line up from youngest to oldest, your girl is in second place! Both of my parents spent the majority of their lives in Memphis. My parents are divorced and have been for the majority of my life. I will also talk about growing up with divorced parents and how that affected my life in a future blog.

Let’s talk about high school really quickly. I’m about to go on a little rant here but bear with me. I graduated from Germantown High School. Now.. I was always told that I would love high school. I was a huge fan of High School Musical and if you weren’t then I’m sorry… you missed out on an iconic era. Lol I know I’m probably showing my age, but just hear me out real quick. If you try to watch High School Musical now, it is not going to hit the same. I think once we get to a certain age, we don’t hear things the same way we did as kids. I’m only saying this because in 12th grade, my English teacher decided to be nice one day and allow our class to watch High School Musical as a farewell gift. My ears didn’t receive Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez’s (Vanessa Hudgens) vocal performances the way my childhood ears did. Lol I was questioning my entire childhood that day. Ok.. but back to the topic. If you are familiar with the adventure, the childish drama, and luxuries shown throughout the movie then we can move along to the point. I stepped into high school with that visual in my mind. It had me excited entering into my freshman year. Listen, I didn’t get welcomed the first day with basketballs falling from the sky and students performing perfect choreography in sync. I will just sum it all up with revealing that my favorite moment was graduation day. ( We were NOT all in it together. Lol... That one was for the fans.) If you are currently in high school, please don’t let this scare you. You most definitely won’t receive a high school musical experience, but make the best of it and actually enjoy it.

THE REAL LADY V

Now.. enough about me. Let’s get into the reason behind the creation of A Piece of Lady V. I’ve always enjoyed writing. That love started in elementary school. At Highland Oaks Elementary School, my 5th grade teacher assigned the class a creative writing topic every week. I enjoyed creative writing because it allowed me to be able to create my own story around the topic that was presented. I usually scored pretty high on the papers I submitted. This resulted in me venturing off into poetry, creating my own stories, and even writing down what was on my mind. If there is something on my mind that I feel can be useful to somebody else, then I share it on my Instagram.

My blog is named after my grandma, Virginia Oliver, who passed away May 22, 2020. She is the original Lady V. My granny’s whole heart went into being a nurse. She received her degree in nursing from Memphis State University. She worked at John Gaston, The Med and the City of Memphis hospital until 2006. She was even the nurse manager in the ambulatory care center of the Diggs- Kraus Center for Sickle Cell Disease at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis (Put some RESPECT on her name honey) .I would describe my granny as the gardener of our family garden. My family and I were the flowers of her garden that needed her love and care in order to flourish. Her smile was the sun that glowed upon us as she shared her wisdom, cooked Sunday dinners, rubbed her warm hand along our backs, rushed us off to church, and casually glided into the living room to soak in our presence. She devoted her entire life to taking care of people and her family. Granny’s home was a safe place that made room for us to express ourselves and come together as one.

My granny will always live through me and this blog is the perfect start. I’m going to give credit where it’s due. The name of my blog came along thanks to my big sister, Jessica. She named one of her plants “Lady V” after our granny of course and I couldn’t get the name out of my head while writing down ideas (Thanks, sista girl!). I want this blog to be like the home my granny created. I want it to be the warm hand on your back that’s going to help you get through the tough times. I want to share my experience and advice to help you in your everyday life. I hope it helps you tackle those important conversations. I created an email address that I want you to use to send topics that you want discussed. This will give me an opportunity to include the topics that you want to focus on and also will allow us to become closer. I also want this blog to feel like you’re hanging out with one of your closest friends at a nice lounge. We’re ordering wine or whatever your favorite beverage is. (I’ll be having a nice glass of white wine for this occasion… please and thank you!) We’re sharing updates on everything that has been occurring in our lives. We’re chatting about the latest gossip, sharing viewpoints on things that come to mind, and motivating each other when those crowns start to slip. So… grab that glass, pull up a chair, and let’s check in!

Make sure you sign up for emails so that you won’t miss out on the next hang out session with your girl!
