What's The Purpose?

Welcome back my good people. I know, I know it has been a minute and I just want to say that I apologize for the wait. Life can get a little busy sometimes but I'm sure we can all relate. I'm just glad that you're here. I hope we all had a great day and were able to accomplish everything that we wanted. Now... let's unwind and get ready to check in with Lady V on today's topic. You may want to grab some paper and pen. We’re going to do some reflecting today.

If you follow me on my social media then you saw the questions that I asked you all. (If you don’t follow me, then take a second and click the social media links at the top right corner of this page.) The questions I asked were, “What is your purpose and why is it important to you?” I would like everybody to take a moment to think about your answers. If you want to go the extra mile, take a second to write down those answers. If not, no worries, just keep it in your head because we're about to dive a little deeper.

Let me ask you another question. When a new album is released by an artist that you and your friends admire, do ya'll ever have a listening party, without actually throwing a party? You know..... like .... do you and your friends text each other with your thoughts about the songs throughout the album? ( No!? Just me and my friends? okay) . Well ..... My friends and I tend to do this often and there's always that one friend during the listening party, who skips through the album without enjoying it in its entirety...... just rushing the process. Yep! That friend is me. Iol I am that friend that lets down the group by skipping away. I will honestly share that I get impatient while trying to get to the songs that may have my favorite artists featured on them. We're not going to channel my impatient tendencies on this topic today. We’re going to practice patience today. Instead of rushing through purpose, we’re going to start at the beginning and get a full understanding of the word PURPOSE.

What is Purpose? It’s the reason for which something is done or created for which something exists. A few synonyms that stood out to me were motivation, reason, aim, goal , and worth.Take a minute and read that again.

If you have your paper out I would like you to write down what came to mind as soon as you finished reading the definition and synonyms. The first thing that came to my mind after I read the definitions and synonyms was the word LIFE.

Motivation

When I see the word motivation, I connect it to those things that get me out of bed every morning… the things that keep me moving even when I feel like giving up. I don't know about you, but sometimes I have those days where I don't want to get out of bed. I just want to keep hitting the snooze button, turn back over, throw all my responsibilities out the window, and call it a day. To be honest, most days I would rather do that than face the long, drawn out days. It can be very tempting, trust me I know, but then I start thinking about the things I wouldn't accomplish. I think about the things that I'm saving up for, where I want to be at the end of the year, improving my savings, helping out my family, being blessed with another day to live, and even how making the wrong decision could potentially set me back. All of these things are the motivations that keep me from hitting that snooze button in the morning. These decisions trump the option of wasting my entire day. Now don't get me wrong I believe in rest days and vacations. I don't believe in working so much that you're burned out from it. If you're that person that forgets to give yourself a break, I'm here to tell you that you need to take out some time and get some rest. Overworking yourself can cause a lot of stress on your body that can result in health issues. You deserve to be able to have that pleasing moment of being able to turn those alarms off the night before. Dealing with life isn't always going to be as easy as hitting that snooze button. Imagine where the hard work you put in now will take you in the future.

What are some of the motivations that get you out of bed every morning?

Goal

Now let's talk about goals.

I feel like motivation and goals connect in certain ways. Aside from your #bestfriendgoals or #relationshipsgoals, what are your #lifegoals? On social media, we often see posts about wanting a certain type of romantic relationship or friendship. I want us to focus more on the goals we set for ourselves. If you don’t have specific goals set for your future right now, that’s ok. I don’t want you to think you have to have it all figured out. I do think that it's important to start somewhere though. Short term goals are a great start. These goals help us create the small steps that lead to the bigger goals (long term goals) that we are trying to achieve. These short term goals can be looked at as a guideline, map , or plan that can help keep us on track. In the past I've set certain goals for myself that I didn't accomplish due to a lack of planning. When I say lack of planning, I'm referring to not acknowledging the work that needed to be done in order to reach these particular goals. It's very important when making goals to also identify the work that will help us achieve those goals. It is going to require hard work, but it's up to you to figure out the work you're willing to put in.

Too often I see people on social media reposting celebrities or public figures living a certain way that they admire and attaching #goals to it. I believe that there is nothing wrong with applauding somebody for their accomplishments and being inspired by somebody's life. Witnessing their accomplishments, however, should never cause you to question your own accomplishments in life. We are all on our own journey and it's important to applaud yourself for how far you've come. It's time to focus on becoming your own #goals.

What are some goals that you want to accomplish by the end of the month?

What are some long term goals that you're working towards?

What work are you going to have to put in to make sure these goals are accomplished ?

I, for one, can say that I struggled with knowing my purpose for a very long time. Honestly, I am still on the journey of discovering what all that means for me. Part of the struggle was thinking that I had to have it all figured out by a certain age. I will let you know right now that there is no age limit to figuring out what your ultimate purpose in life is. Yeah I know that's hard to believe, but it is true. If you start by accepting that part then that can help the journey become a little easier for you. So give yourself some credit, Love, and remember that you are doing your very best right now.

As I come to the end of this blog, I want to encourage you, friend, to keep moving forward. You don't have to know your purpose today, tomorrow, or by next week. You may find that it changes a couple times throughout your life and that's okay. There are seasons in this thing called life. If it changes a couple of times, maybe that was the season you were in. Find the purpose in that season. If you are on the journey of discovering your purpose, may I challenge you to start somewhere? Test the water, as I like to say. It takes testing the water to figure out what works for you and what doesn't. Don’t allow somebody to tell you what your purpose is. Figure that out for yourself. You got this.

I’ll leave you with one final question. It’s kind of like the question I asked before.

What's your purpose......... now?
